Rev. Dr. Michael G. Daniels is the pastor of Enoch Baptist Church (EBC) and a community organizer. In 2010, he was the recipient of the City of Virginia Beach’s “Best All Around” award. Rev Daniels also received the City’s “Humanitarian” award, in 2011.
Rev. Daniels and the Enoch Baptist Church have established several initiatives for the development and prosperity of the church membership and the community that it serves. One of these is the Enoch Baptist Church Christian Academy. The EBC Christian Academy is an accredited program for Preschool Youth ages 2-4 years and Grades 1st-5th. The Academy provides an educational program which also builds character, establishes value and provides skills for life-long learning.
In 2010, Rev Daniels was one of the leaders of a community based coalition concerned about creating opportunities for teenagers in the Western Bayside area of Virginia Beach. This led to the construction of the Western Bayside Recreation Center which provides supervised athletic and tutoring services. He also partnered with the City’s Parks & Recreation Department, and Bayside Middle School to open and operate the first of its kind “Open Gym Program” for the community. Through his efforts, both manpower and oversight are provided to ensure the youth in the community have a safe place to go after school and on weekends at the “Open Gym” and at the church facility.
Rev. Daniels and the Enoch Baptist Church also partners with several other community organizations to sponsor Community Day Events. These events are held twice each year (May and September). The events are open to the public and promote family unity, community awareness, and civic pride. Fun, food and entertainment are provided to over 2500 residents and continue to grow each year. Health screenings and awareness, community service and voter registration booths are set up to educate and inform. Food, clothing, school supplies and/or other giveaways are distributed
Rev. Daniels and the Enoch Baptist church annually distribute scholarships to help needy and deserving youth. In addition, the church has initiated a program which guarantees students who enroll prior to their senior year of high school funding assistance throughout their 4-year college career.
Enoch Baptist Church has partnered with the City of Virginia Beach to offer a Summer Enrichment Program to over 100 youth for the past three years.
Rev. Daniels was the 2012 President of the City of Virginia Beach’s 3rd Precinct Police Department Citizen Advisory Committee where he represented the residents of the Western Bayside Community. He also is a member of the Mayor’s African American Roundtable.
